Guest: Red Flags at Beaches

The Herald-Tribune’s coverage of “no-swimming advisories” in Sarasota County over the last few weeks raises a red flag that warns not just of the immediate dangers of exposure to bacteria in the waters off some of our most popular beaches, but also the larger issue of compromised water quality and the broad ramifications for human health, environmental health and our economic well-being.
